A fun day out - good company, great cars and a successful fundraisers for a great cause.
Count me in for next year!
I recently bought a badge which will be added to the Rover in time for the Dapper Drive this Sunday.
Even if drink / driving is less prevalant now than it perhaps once was, I like the badge if only for its correct use of the apostrophe!
Maybe I should look for a Rechabites badge to accompany it?
The pressures of modern life can sometimes leave us feeling worn down with worries. If we aren't careful the concerns which might ordinarily be taken in our stride grow in stature and threaten to overwhelm us.
The Distinguished Gentleman's Drive on 24 September is raising funds to support Movember who look at mental health through a male lens, focusing on prevention, early intervention and health promotion. They are working towards a world where men take action to be mentally well, and are supported by those around them.
While such groups have their part to play, the key phrase here is "those around them"; we all have our part to play in providing a network of mutual support. So to any of my friends, family, or acquaintances reading this - if you need a listening ear drop me a message, or give me a buzz, let's see if we can get things back into perspective.
I spent some time at the weekend with the car parked on Leith Walk as I tinkered on it. It never ceases to amaze me how a classic car can bring out the humanity in the passing public. Whether it is a simple acknowledgement of , "Nice car, mate!", or an extended stop and chat about the car, memories, or just life in general.
It lifts my spirits to engage with people in a way which is normally lacking in the city, and perhaps in acknowledging these individuals it lifts their spirits too in some small way. That human interaction with a stranger contributes to our mental well-being in a way for which we perhaps do not normally give credit .
Looking forward to the Dapper Drive on the 24th, and boosting funds for these worthy causes.
With the support of the Brn of St David (University Lodge).
